Do they have a preference..of course they do. Am I presumptuous enough to list what they like..nope. But the following have been used before. Springfield 1903 in 30 06 Winchester Mdl 70 in 30-06 M1 Garand in 30-06 Remington M40 in .308 Springfield M21 & M25 (M14 super match grade) in .308 Barrett Light 50 in 50 cal. There are a plethora of them..these were just a few well known ones. Almost any high power hunting rifle can be utilized by a sure enough documented military / government sniper. Do they have a preference..of course they do. Am I presumptuous enough to list what they like..nope. But the following have been used before.
Springfield 1903 in 30 06
Winchester Mdl 70 in 30-06
M1 Garand in 30-06
Remington M40 in .308
Springfield M21 & M25 (M14 super match grade) in .308
Barrett Light 50 in 50 cal.

There are a plethora of them..these were just a few well known ones.
