All you need is the money to purchase. You do an instant background check when you purchase the gun and all that is the dealer makes a call to check your background and since you say no criminal record then this should be no problem. For handguns thats a little bit different. You would either need a purchase permit or a conceal carry permit. Both are obtained from your local sheriff. The purchase permit is free and good for one year. The conceal carry permit is good for 5 years but you need to take a safety class before the sheriff would issue that.
