what do you think is the best military rifle…?

December 6th, 2009 by eranio

Personal opinion question… Which is the best military rifle past or present ever made and why? I’ve seen the top ten as recommended by the Military Channel, I just want to know some other opinions out there! Recommendations should be based on longevity, accuracy, costliness, ease of maintenence., etc.
ok I would like to know why you chose that rifle???

That depends on the type of soldier, level of training and area of combat. There are many factors that would go into choosing the most effective weapon. If you have an untrained army fighting at close range (where accuracy is not an issue) than nothing beats the AK 47. If you have a highly trained soldiers fighting at significant distances (300 yards or more) than the M16 is a far superior rifle.

    M-16 A1

The AK47: it’s very cheap to make, works in any weather condition, has been around since the mid 40s; not as accurate as the M1, but has been the choice of armies, rebel groups and mercenaries everywhere.

rifles suck. try cleaning one and you’ll forget you ever asked this question. i’d say the AR15 though, out of the few i’ve fired.

Good old FN FAL. I’ve seen the AK47 and used the FAL, I’ll prefer the FAL.
Though replaced everywhere replaced by more modern rifles.
Now I would say the FN F2000 (some good design features in it) but I’ve not yet used it.

It hasn’t been built yet. It should shoot a 7mm bullet of about 120-130 gr. weight at about 2500-2600 fps in semi-auto mode and be perfectly reliable and easy to maintain. It should be lightweight and short. About as close as you get is the M4 carbine in 6.8 SPC.

all depends on the time period——I personally prefer the M-14 over the m-16 or the AK—–much better accuracy than the AK and better round than the .223
if you want one of the most accurate ,most durable —you’d have to go a ways to do better than an 8MM mauser—doesn’t shoot as fast ,but much more accurate and hard hitting

I would love to have a M-16 A-2 in a (far) combat situation. It is extremely accurate. But its hard to maintain and a little bit of dirt and it jams. Rusts up and wont fire, anyone in the Marines knows what im talking about. Tap Rack Bang!!! As a back up in close combat or ambushes you honestly can not beat a AK-47. I know through personal experiance about using both in a real life situation. An AK will fire almost always, rarely jams, and even rusted shut will operate. Just kick it hard if its rusted slap a clip in and fire. But AK’s arent really that accurate and not really for far targets. these are just personal favorites through opinion and experiance.

The Nato 5.56 or more commonly known as the .223 ammunition used in the modern M-16/ M-4 rifle is a joke. We send our soldiers to war with a rilfe caliber that is so small most states won’t let you use it to hunt whitetail deer.

Yes. We send American men and women into combat against religeous fanatics armed with AK-47 style machine guns, mostly in a 7.62×39 caliber.

Yes. They have fully automatic weapons with bigger bullets. And we send our guys into combat against them with guns that cannot be relied upon to kill a 110 pound deer.

Some of our troops in Afganistan have asked for and have received M-14 rifles. They prefer the 7.62×51 a.k.a .308 because of the increased knockdown.

The M-14 or its contempory the FN FAL which both use the .308 cartridge are true battle rifles. And either would be a good choice. The FN FAL is still produced in Brazil and is still widely used.

My grandad who is a WW2 vet agrees. His only objection is that I didn’t add the M-1 Garand in 30.06 caliber. He won a bronze star for beating two Nazi soldiers to death with his M-1 garand defending a wounded buddy in a fox hole in France.

So thats my two cents worth.
