What if you have a juvenile record, and you want to join the military?
I am 23 years old, I am interested in joining the Air Force. However when I was 14 years old I was charged with terroristic threats…(basically i really f****d up, decided to call a bomb threat into school) As a result i was given probation for one year. I did not have to go to a Detention center or anything like that. I completed probation without any problems and made honor roll from there on out. My question to you all is, can i enter the Air Force, I’ve spoken to numerous recruiters and some have said yes and others no. FYI I have since then obtained my federal firearms id card, which was given as a result of me passing the federal background investigation. In other words. The FBI feels that i am allowed to own firearms. So if the military does a background check will it come up? I really want to join.

Juvenile records ARE NOT sealed for background checks related to security clearances. The recruiter wants to get you in. Ask him. MEPS sometimes seems to want to keep you out. Don’t volunteer anything there and be careful about the wording of questions. Be honest on ANY security questionnaire.

yes you can, all criminal cases are sealed if the crime was commited during your juvenile days

You messed up when you were younger. Big deal. Have you messed up since then? Most likely you will have to get a waiver to get in but that is not a big issue. Make sure you answer all of the questions asked to you about your past honestly though. If you don’t, they will find out and then you won’t get in.
