Well the term sniper indicates killing a human at a long distance, I would prefer to say a flat shooting big game rifle. In that case there are many to choose from in different cals. .223 .270 .308 7mm, 300 mag. There are a lot to choose from and you can check the ballistics tables to see what you may prefer.

First of all what do you plan on hunting like moose a 300 savage or a 30-06 would be good even a 7mm or a 357 if your going to hunt deer then use a 243 or a 257 or like ground hogs or rabits or something like that use a 22 or a 22 mag
