The possibilities are limitless…
But you asked so here’s your answer…
A Springfield Socom 2 with a JAE GENeration 2 Stock.
Marine Snipers use it and you can definitely hunt with it.
It’s a 7.62 Caliber Sniper Rifle that doesn’t weigh too much so you can walk all day hunting with it.

Jeff has it right. It has plenty of good information, and plenty of pictures for those of you that can’t read.
In the meantime, I’ll stay in reality and use an everyday rifle, for my everyday (almost everyday) task of hunting small to medium game.
Goddammit… normally, I’d enjoy seeing kids use firearms (under proper guidance)… now I’m not sure if I want any of you kiddies around a Red Ryder, much less something capable of flinging a lead pill at lethal velocities.

you need the Ruger M77 Hawkeye, because Hawkeye was a really famous sharp shooter, that name means a lot..no, I am not talking about the guy from MASH, I am talking about the guy from Last of the Mohicans who could shoot the dingleberries out of a flying crow at 500 paces
Then I’d suggest getting the gun chambered in 6.5 Creedmore, because Creedmore is a famous long range shooting range and competition, so Creedmore means uber long range and accuracy
The Ruger M77 Hawkeye in 6.5mm Creedmore.
So you got the mojo of the word Hawkeye and the mojo of the word Creedmore working for you.
If you want a rifle with top notch vocabulary tied to it, that is what I would suggest.

Go buy yourself a .500 Nitro Express, or a .460 Weatherby Magnum. Believe you me, you can’t get much more potent than that. And if they don’t qualify under your specifications, nothing does. You’ll be ripping deer in half, and blowing coffee can size holes in Elk. Get yourself a good sledgehammer solid bullet and your set.
Good luck, you’re going to need it!

You can’t own a sniper rifle. Sniper rifles are all owned by the military and paramilitary organizations. If they were to sell such a rifle, it would no longer be a sniper rifle. When you’re an adult, you’ll understand.

By classification all bolt action rifles are sniper rifles. Sounds like you’re more interested in buy what I call a penis extension that will make you feel like a big man in front of you’re little friends.

A sniper rifle is just a rifle that a sniper uses, so unless you become a sniper you can never have a sniper rifle. But to really answer your question, a .338 would be impractical for hunting. Something like a M40, M24, or M21 would look pretty cool though, would cost a lot too. I use an old Mosin-Nagant for hunting and always get compliments about how it looks.

i would recommend a .308 Winchester, but after about one thousand yards, it drops dramatically, it also depend on the gun you are using.

Good grief Nate, you need a gun that is suitable for what you are hunting.
Using a "bad ass" big round on small game just blows it apart, ruins the pelt and destroys the meat.
On the other side, using around that is too small will not drop the bigger game.
The .338 Lapua is designed for long range sniping of people, not for hunting. It would just drill through most game as it is designed to penetrate body armor.
Then you have the .338 Winchester which is a good round for elk. Then there is the .338 Federal, also designed for big game.
I would suggest you look at hunting rounds if hunting is what you are interested in doing. Do not think one round is all you need.
