It depends on what you mean by better. Overall, I would say the AK.

If you are going to buy a true assault rifle, be ready to spend about as much as you would for a cheap new car. Around the neighborhood of 15k – 20k.

Depends on what kind you get as an AR-15 platform or an Ak47. Of course some makers are better than others. I think Stag Arms makes a fine AR platform and reasonably priced. The ak, well it depends on where it comes from. There are so many clones now a days that I couldn’t really help you there. Also don’t call them ‘assualt rifles’.

"Assault Rifle" is a misnomer by the media……..and antigun people. If you go in a gun store and ask for a "ASSAULT RIFLE" they will think you are a goof ball and might not sell you a gun. You are looking for a AR semi auto or AK semi auto. If you say AR or AK they will know what you mean.

As far as better….. a SCAR or a Sig556 or Tavor if you can find these and have 1800.00 to 5000.00 to spend. Barrett makes a nice Rec7 for 2350.00

A good AR or AK will cost you around a 1000.00. Look at the big names like Rock River,Colt,Stag,DPMS and others. In AK a Arsenal or Yugo style built by good builders in USA,…not Century or any WASR-10.

wasr 10′s are fine. buying an expensive ak47 is like buying the best mail box. if you wanted a better gun you wouldn’t be buying an ak47.

    You mean Semi Auto rifle.
Well in my opinion i like the M1A the best once it comes to caliber, it’s awesome accuracy from long distances, and just the overall mechanism. It’s very well made, but it’s a bit on the heavy side. But with more weight equals less recoil.
    Besides that, FN-FAL.

A pansy like you should probably stick to something along the lines of a nerf gun, don’t you think?

You may be getting your terms mixed up. One of the characteristics of a true ‘assault rifle’ is capable of selective fire—that is full auto or semi auto at the flip of a switch. I think you mean a semi-auto only, which means it is a semi-auto-only carbine; nothing more, nothing less.

If you DO mean a true assault rifle and have $12,000 up to spend, then your choices are myriad-all true assault rifles have their good points and bad points.

For semi-auto the 2 main choices (there are many more lesser known) are the AR15-type, and the AK47 type. Down to brass tacks now–the AR’s are more accurate than the AK’s. An AR should be able to shoot 2 inch, 5-shot groups at 100 yards without a scope(assuming the shooter does his/her part). The AK usually shoots around 6 inches–which is still totally acceptable because the human chest is much smaller than that.

The AK is not as fancy or well-made, but it is incredibly robust and totally reliable (more reliable than the AR). They work EVERY time.
I have owned both and shot the TRUE assault variants of these weapons. I have been a weaponphile for 40+ years and would be happy with either. You just have to know both weapons’ strengths and weaknesses.

Yes, there are better makes out there, all incredibly expensive (even the semi-only versions) and very rare. Check out gunbroker.com and you can find anything you want if you have the bucks.

first off, stop calling them assault rifles. this is a term the anti gun media applies to make them sound evil.
You are talking about a "battle rifle".
It depends on what you want. The AK is a roughly made firearm in a decent caliber, but not too accurate. It fires in darn near any condition, but parts are hard to get.
The AR family of firearms is very versatile and can be quickly changed to different calibers by swapping top ends. It is much more accurate, and if loaded with quality HP ammo, is an excellent stopper. It will be affected by certain adverse conditions, but is very easy to maintain and parts are easily available.
    I prefer the AR myself.
    Shoot safe

    >>What is the best assault rifle(AR-15 AK-47) – is there a better assault rifle<<

Like others have said, it’s highly unlikely you’re actually looking for an assault rifle. What you’re looking for is a semi auto combat style rifle.

IMO, the two best are the HK-91 and the FN-FAL.

I would take a Colt AR-15 SP1 all week long and twice on Sunday over any AK-47

I also have to agree, the Wasr-10 are fine rifles . The AK’s are also noted for being one the most reliable weapons mass produced ever. I’ve owned 2 Wasr-10 & they run great !

    AK47 or AK10x rifle
AK47/AKM shoots the larger 7.62x39mm round. Has more recoil, less range, and less overall accuracy than the AK10x rifles in the smaller 5.45x39mm caliber. The AK10x rifles (AK103-AK107) are a bit more expensive but they are the newest in the AK line of rifles, with improved accuracy, even better reliability, increased range, its balanced for better handling as well as performance.

I recommend an AK-type rifle over an AR, they are extremely reliable, highly affordable, very easy to use and maintain. If you want good AR15-like accuracy, then get an AK107 rifle, the 5.45x39mm round has a longer and more ballistically stable bullet than the .223 caliber round for the AR15 rifles. At the same times having the extreme high level of reliability, simplicity, and ease of maintenance of the AK rifle.

The AR15 rifles are basically expensive toys that are not particularly reliable, complicated, and very picky about what kind of ammo (how expensive it is) you use.
