my favorite assault rifle has always been a m16 with a m203 attachment. another good gun is the g36.
a replacement should be the m468

It’s hard to pick a ‘best’ assault rifle.
If I got to choose the replacement for the M16 / M4, it would be the H&K G3 family. (Particularly the H&K G3A4) It uses the 7.62mm NATO round.
It’s being used in over 70 countries… so it can’t be that bad.

AK74 is the best but i prefer the AR15

May sound stupid but it depends what you want it for. 5.56mm is good for taking people out of the battle while not always killing them. 7.62mm on the other hand if you hit someone with it they stay down.

I’m just not sure that any current system is better than the AR-15 to anything but a marginal degree. With reliability largely solved other systems don’t seem to give enough of an advantage to justify the time & expense required to devise & distribute new equipment, drill, maintenance & armourer’s training.
An upgrade to 6.8SPC doesn’t seem likely or particularly required; it’s been some years since I last heard any of the panty-waisted talk of a lack of poke relating to the 5.56 and the 6.8 does little to justify itself, esp. in terms of extended range perform ace. Nor do other nation’s seem to have this gripe; that US soldiers are willing to take the M4s handy size despite its known ballistic shortfall suggests they doth protest too much…

you are taking things other way, best assault rifle is not judged solely on its firepower but its also judged by its reliability,handling,wieght and size .M16/M4 could not fight in extreme climates so i want use them anyway .I could say that based on reliability,handling,wieght and size both M16 and M468(6.8mm rifle)are same but in case of firepower I will go for a 6.8mm rifle
