I’d have to agree with whomever said the M-14. The 7.62mm NATO round will knock a man down if you hit him, whereas the 5.56mm NATO round, a man can get hit and keep moving. Furthermore, the M-14 is a very accurate weapon at battlefield distances (the Army even adopted an accurized version as a sniper rifle, the M-21), and a fully automatic version (like the one employed in Vietnam) would provide a small unit with a greater fire superiority capability.

As far as firearm, the M-240 machine gun, lighter and faster than a M-60, look identical. Don’t get me wrong the M-60 is great, but can’t match the M-240….

The Colt 1911A1 .45 pistol.

True….a Squad Automatic Weapon is effective? But, how about a (NIED) "Nuclear Improvised Explosive Device"!!!
Disclaimer: If one is talking about "ultimate firepower" and more bang for your buck than the NIED is by far the best choice!
Have a nice day……FreeBird/Andrew

The German G-2 (the civilian HK-91). It fires the 7.62mm NATO round (.308 win.) which I find to be far superior to the 5.56mm NATO (.223win.).
The M-16 A3 is a fine weapon, and deadly accurate, however I feel that it is under powered.

in small arms AK-101, coz it has reliability of AK-47 and ammo of M-16
all in all my fav military vehicle is tank, German Leopard II

Well, I’ve never shot it or anything but I like the M-249 SAW, and the AK-47 is the most popular military weapon of all time.

Forgetting things like size, weight, weight of ammunition, etc, I still believe the M14 was the finest battle rifle ever made in terms of accuracy, reliability, range, and stopping power.

Depend on what you want to use it for. You would be a fool to take a M-16 to a long distance battle against a M40A3 sniper rifle. Hell it’s even stupid to take a full automatic M-16 to a narrow indoor urban battle agaist someone armed with a .18 glock. Just as it is stupid to bring a M40A3 or .18 glock to open field close quarter combat agaist someone armed with a M16.
Each situtation need different type of firearms. If there was only one ultimate weapon then every soldiers in the world would have the same weapon.

As a 19K, Armor Crewmember, the Tank is my personal weapon. Therefore, I vote for the: M1A2.
The main armament is the 120mm M256 smoothbore gun, developed by Rheinmetall Waffe Munition GmbH of Germany. The 120mm gun fires the following ammunition: the M865 TPCSDS-T and M831 TP-T training rounds, the M8300 HEAT-MP-T and the M829 APFSDS-T which includes a depleted uranium penetrator. Textron Systems provides the Cadillac Gage gun turret drive stabilisation system.
The commander has a 12.7mm Browning M2 machine gun and the loader has a 7.62mm M240 machine gun. A 7.62mm M240 machine gun is also mounted coaxially on the right hand side of the main armament.
The M1A2 tank incorporates steel encased depleted uranium armour. Armour bulkheads separate the crew compartment from the fuel tanks. The top panels of the tank are designed to blow outwards in the event of penetration by a HEAT projectile. The tank is protected against nuclear, biological and chemical (NBC) warfare.
One L8A1 six-barrelled smoke grenade discharger is fitted on each side of the turret. A smoke screen can also be laid by an engine operated system
The commander’s station is equipped with six periscopes, providing 360 degree view. The Raytheon Commander’s Independent Thermal Viewer (CITV) provides the commander with independent stabilised day and night vision with a 360 degree view, automatic sector scanning, automatic target cueing of the gunner’s sight and back-up fire control.
The M1A2 Abrams tank has a two-axis Raytheon Gunner’s Primary Sight- Line of Sight (GPS-LOS) which increases the first round hit probability by providing faster target acquisition and improved gun pointing. The Thermal Imaging System (TIS) has magnification x10 narrow field of view and x3 wide field of view. The thermal image is displayed in the eyepiece of the gunner’s sight together with the range measurement from a laser rangefinder. The Northrop Grumman (formerly Litton) Laser Systems Eyesafe Laser Rangefinder (ELRF) has a range accuracy to within 10m and target discrimination of 20m. The gunner also has a Kollmorgen Model 939 auxiliary sight with magnification x8 and field of view 8 degrees.
The digital fire control computer is supplied by General Dynamics – Canada (formerly Computing Devices Canada). The fire control computer automatically calculates the fire control solution based on: lead angle measurement; bend of the gun measured by the muzzle reference system; velocity measurement from a wind sensor on the roof of the turret; data from a pendulum static cant sensor located at the centre of the turret roof. The operator manually inputs data on ammunition type, temperature, and barometric pressure.
The driver has either three observation periscopes or two periscopes on either side and a central image intensifying periscope for night vision. The periscopes provide 120 degrees field of view. The DRS Technologies Driver’s Vision Enhancer (DVE), AN/VSS-5, is based on a 328 x 245 element uncooled infrared detector array, operating in the 7.5 to 13 micron waveband. A Raytheon Driver’s Thermal Viewer, AN/VAS-3, is installed on the M1A2 Abrams tanks for Kuwait.
The M1 is equipped with a Honeywell AGT 1500 gas turbine engine. The Allison X-1100-3B transmission provides four forward and two reverse gears. The US Army has selected Honeywell International Engines and Systems and General Electric to develop a new LV100-5 gas turbine engine for the M1A2. The new engine is lighter and smaller with rapid acceleration, quieter running and no visible exhaust.

1 choice, Sniper rifle, get them before the get you
2, choice, 16inch deck gun, nothing will stand up to it
3 choice, what is ever at hand that works when stuff gets frantic
November 28th, 2009 at 10:22 am
Well in my opinion Id say the desert eagle. The desert eagle is a quality gun with plenty of muscle and power. If you want a powerful handgun then the desert eagle is the weapon of choice.

"SAM"…but a bit large for a firearm, don’t you think !
November 28th, 2009 at 10:22 am
Regardless of country? I would say the Kalashnikov series of assault rifles. They are by far the most widespread, and widely produced firearm in history. They almost never break or jam, and despite being a 60 year old design, they are very effective in the right hands. They have been present in every armed conflict since the latter half of the 20th century, and are so ubiquitous, that the gun’s image has been minted on coins, sewn on flags, and male children in some countries in Africa are named "Kalash". It may not be the absolute best in terms of design or effectiveness anymore, but it has had more impact on gun design, military tactics, and even world politics than any other weapon in history, and will continue to do so for the foreseeable future.

Hi betterdeadthansorry,
This is what my friend told me,
"this is my weapon, this is my gun…
…this is for fighting, this is for fun"
And he was right! You probably guessed which one is my choice as "best"!
Ooooh, Mmmmm…what firepower!
November 28th, 2009 at 10:22 am
The right one
November 28th, 2009 at 10:22 am
Hi, betterdeadth…, my name is Hank. The best military firearm is the one that replaces the current firearm. If your current firearm is replaced that means the replacement is better than the one you have.

The best military firearm is the arm of the soldier carrying the weapon.
