Fictional action heroes and video gamers love them. After you’ve used up the very limited number of expensive rounds that the magazine holds you still have a CLUB.
Or a paperweight.

It is too heavy, ammo is too bulky for a pistol and .357, .44, or .50 AE are military issue rounds. it is unreliable and very expensive. its magazine is way too small (7 rounds in .50). it was made for movies and CSI shows not to be an actual sidearm.

It’s used as a paperweight.

I heard long ago-I do not know for sure-, but I heard that the 50 ae was designed for the Israeli military and the intent was a 1 shot stop. Don’t know it thats true or not. The 50 ae does develop about 4x the power of the 45 acp. But as we all know – the DE 50 cal is a monster to carry. Even the scaled down versions are big and heavy guns.
I know that many soldiers carried the 1911 all day (I have), but you need a shoulder harness and a wide web belt. So, it is a carry-able weapon with proper equipment.

I have a good friend who is a former Israeli army combat engineer, and yes they were used by the israei military. The reviews over there are about as mixed as they are here.

It’s a useless gun period. It’s sole purpose is to flaunt it. Or was but anyone who has been into guns for awhile learns to despise it.

the desert eagle was designed by Magnum Research for the American pistol hunting/long range target shooting markets. they hired IMI (israel military industries) to manufacture the pistol. it has never nor will it ever be issued to israeli tank crews or mossad agents! this is a widely believed myth that the israeli military designed the pistol, this is false.
*this doesn’t apply to the Jericho 941 the so called "baby eagle". it is in use with the IDF, but besides the cosmetic similarities they are completely different pistols. the 941 was based on the well respected CZ-75, not the behemoth paperweight known as the Desert Eagle.
