What is the name of this assault rifle?
I was watching Future Weapons one day and on this particular episode they covered a "new" assault rifle. In the episode they said that it was smaller and lighter than the standard m4, and also has the ability to switch into a sniper rifle. Well I was wondering what the name of this particular rifle was. Can anyone help me out?
It also resembles a m4 or m16 if that helps

did they show a picture? It could have been the M8 Carbine (also known as XM8) i don’t think it can turn into a sniper rifle, but there is a sniper rifle variant. (along with a light machine gun, sub machine gun etc) Have a look at the link below for a pic.
It was originally designed to replace the M4 but the project has since been abandoned.

Could it be the OICW?
Objective Individual Combat Weapon
5.56mm Kinetic (30-round clip)
20mm HE GL (6-round clip)

Sounds like you are talking about the XM-8 made by H&K, but that design was rejected cause it did not meet all the requirements for the Army. I got a hands on with that weapon when I was in the army, before they shot it down. I was very nice, but felt "fragile" and I did not like that. It was designed using the same configuration as the Colt series, making training for stripping and cleaning almost identical. It also could be configured to be a squad automatic weapon, a sharpshooter, or a compact carbine. It had integrated sight system, red dot style. It was rejected because it was not able to convert from 5.56 to 7.62 from my understanding. Look up images of the XM8, and let me know if that is the weapon you are talking about, thanks.

they have so many assault rifles that double as mid and long range weapons that Nobody could give you an answer unless they knew exactly what you were talking about
