What is the standard issue firearm for your local, state and/or military forces?

For example, Glocks appear to be popular with local law enforcement, LAPD SWAT uses Kimber…
I would like to know the manufacturer, how long often firearms are replaced and what division you are referencing. Thanks!

Glock 23′s are what I am issued now working for a City. While working for the local County department it was 9mm Beretta. Glocks are known for their ability to sustain wear and tear. There are only 35 parts on the glock 23 which is less than half the number of parts found in competing designs. It is a very easy unit to maintain.
There is no manually-operated thumb safety or de-cocking lever. It has a "Safe Action" trigger system. Basically it has an outer trigger and then a seperate inner trigger. The inner trigger must be squeezed to allow for firing which in itself is the safety mechanism and makes accidental triggering from holsters impossible. Ease of use and reliability I must say I prefer the glock over the Beretta.

Our Department replaced our 45 SW with mdl 23 Glock 40 clb.
City Police, a good choice on their part.
