What is the world’s most well-rounded military rifle?

I believe it is the U.S. M4 in 5.56. What’s your opinion and why?

Actually, spartanerik, the XM8 program was cancelled. The M4A1 is a good rifle, but I like the M16A4 better. It has a little more power and accuracy than the carbine, and makes for a pretty good sniper’s weapon, in a pinch. (With optics, of course)

heh the m4a1 will be replaced by the prototype XM8

but yes the m4 is the msot well-rounded, but the ak is the most well adapted

Whatever the enemy is using, because if you are cut off and in a tight spot you will be using their ammo.

Depends on what you mean by well rounded. The 5.56 is a bit weak with any cartridge at ranges beyond 500 Yards. Pick the right gun for the job.
