What is up with the infestation of the u.s.a military with gigantic guns swarming Haiti?
Religiously speaking, this has nothing to do with religion but I like this Y/A category.
As if the photos weren’t enough, now I heard they didn’t even bring any supplies but are there for ‘security’ in a place where no one was complaining of security issues.
One poor lady making a repeat visit to a hospital to visit her daughter was turned away by the marines.
I think this "show of unnecessary power" by the marines is a total disgrace to the Citizens of America!
What are your thoughts and views? I am interested. Thanks.
Peachie, I have done much research on the military. Years! Some are far from the wonderful people you think they are!.

The Hatian police are shooting looters. And I don’t think marines are turning people away from hospitals unless there is some valid reason for it.

"are there for ‘security’ in a place where no one was complaining of security issues."
Except for the shooting each other for food and the looting you mean?

Its a good position to start picking on Cuba again.

Order has to be maintained, simple.
Your judging it as if the marines are shooting people!
There are no security issues because they have that security in place.

I saw pictures of bands of Haitians armed with machetes and other variants of cane-cutters roaming the streets and looting.
So I think the military is smart to bring guns to the knife fight.
Wouldn’t you rather be prepared than be a statistic and a casualty?

Rite now the situation in Haiti could easily decay into lawlessness, and looting, and violence. We are supplying a tremendous amount of food, water and medical aid. Security is Absolutely necessary to maintain order, there is such thing as "peace through superior firepower".

The guns are not loaded, but their sight makes people think twice about causing trouble. Haiti is a very violent place that needs security for those helping out. The Haiti government was wiped out by the quake.

What did you expect? The country has barely any government buildings left standing much less functioning. Better the Marines then the U.N. those guys I wouldn’t trust with sharp stick and order to keep breathing. Useless fools.
Also don’t presume to know the situation from your air-conditioned seat in your home.
You are a very distant Fourth party viewing nothing more then images caught with no context.
Also. As a Citizen of America, I fully support the Marines and our Military.
Yet oh wait. American’s only seek to plunder and kill innocents.
Yeah no one remembers Millions of people are kept alive because the U.S.
Security is to ensure the injured receive medical attention and the other receive aid as well.
Learn how this all plays out and is handle before you play armchair general.

Militarisation of aid, America was afraid that France would stage an invasion from Haiti, but seriouisly the people with control on the ground can control things higher up in government in the future, at the detriment of people who actually need help.

Since there have been reports of gangs of people fighting for food I think they need security. As for the woman being turned away my guess is that there is to much in the way of medical emergency’s to allow her access. Since Haiti asked for the help it seems to me to be nice that at least America is stepping up to help unlike many other countries only sending token aid.

Over 3000 hard-core criminals escaped from Haiti’s prisons. They are killing women and children to take water and food. The majority of Haitians, who are good people, need to be protected from the vermin.
Further, in a make-shift hospital setting, the patients need protection from possible infection. It is not uncommon to see any hospital limit access during times of high viral and bacterial infection rates.

The total disgrace to the citizens of America is when people spew this nonsense without knowing ALL of the story and the truthfulness behind it. Our sons, daughters, brothers, sisters, mothers and fathers in the marines are sent there to serve ORDER and it’s insulting that one would say they’re causing more chaos.
February 5th, 2010 at 11:33 am
What, you think that with a few million starving people there is no violence?
Haiti is Katrina X 10.
The military is needed to protect the rescue effort.

If you knew anything about what was going on there you would know that security is critically important. And you don’t send soldiers into a chaotic place in order to provide security if they are unarmed.

Easy to judge from the safety of anonymity of the internet and without full experience of being there.
You do not speak for the Citizens of America. I fully support every Soldier, Marine, Sailor and Airman in their efforts to help alleviate the suffering in Haiti. May God bless them and the people of Haiti.

Soldiers on active duty are required to be armed when going into a possible hostile situation. I am sure the Haitian government welcomes any aid with open arms. I am sure that volunteer American firemen wear their gear. Medical aid workers wear scrubs, Religious aid workers travel with Bibles & Rosaries. Maybe you should volunteer & shown up with your desk top & comfy chair & a cup of coffee. You could start my donating monies to Haitian aid and ask Answer fans to match you. Represent ! ( We should be appalled why Cuba is not offering their country as a staging area. Airborn aid must fly from Florida to Haiti. Look @ a map and see how close Cuba is to Haiti.)
