What is your favorite assault rifle and why?
Let’s pretend for a moment you were allowed to choose one assault rifle of any kind to be given to you, what would you choose? Why?
It doesn’t matter whether it’s legal for civilian ownership, or even if ammunition is affordable, only just what one would be your favorite to have.
And don’t bother answering "Duh, i’d choose a way valuable one and then sell it!" so forget the resale values.

The original, of course! The Sturmgewehr 44.
Of course, if I actually needed to USE this chioce of weapon for anything, it’d be a REAL rifle caliber. M14 or semi auto version or the very fine FN/FAL. Probably a Springfield SOCOM II.

I don’t know about guns but my favourite will be the sniper rifle because it can kill in a long distants and goes through bodies. yuck lol

AK – 47. Need I say more?

Back in my youth, in Vietnam, I picked up a Thompson Sub machine gun. I just loved that thing. It was an M1 version. I found it to be surprisingly accurate and controllable, if I didn’t try to squeeze off the entire 30 round stick magazine. If I had a spare 10 or 15 thousand burning a hole in my pocket, I’d buy one in a heartbeat. Just a good, solid gun. Plastic and lightweight alloys just don’t hold a candle to real steel and wood.

FN-FAL 308 calibre. great design by a Belgian and used by very many militaries around the world. I know its called the L1A1 in Canada and it was given to me for 2 weeks work. I had the choice of it or an AR-15.

I’m with Ogr8bear: The FAL, period. The 7.62x51mm is hard to beat.
Best.

I would get a Thompson full auto… with the drum, they are not accurate but just to have and to add to my collection, they dont go for 10K….. I can get a semi auto for 1K and full auto for 2 K where I live….

Browning Automatic Rifle.
You can’t bet the firepower put out by this weapon.

not sure what an assault rifle is other than the gun-banners made up name for comsetically enhanced rifles to sccare soccer moms with
but if I had to choose a rifle it would be a barret 50 bmg
there is just something about killing trees at 1 and a half miles that I like

In a sense it doesn’t quite qualify as an assault rifle but the new LMG 5.56 from Knight’s Armament, or the SR-25 M110 SASS. Either would make me very happy!!

M-14 in 308 caliber.* Great weapon.*

The H&K MP5/10. It is light, accurate, and reliable, and easily accepts a "can". My second choice would be the Atchisson AA-12, the assault shotgun, with the drum magazine. Basically a machine-shotgun. Clear a room? consider it done.

The term assault is a liberal term for a semi-auto firearm with varying features.
As far as functionality, my preference for a service Rifle remains my CAR15.. Semi-auto pre-ban. (can accept 20, 30 round magazines.).. I use my primary for target and varmints. And keep enough ammo for a SHTF possibility in a
Frau Hitlery presidency.
I do have an AK as well in my "gun library" .. It’s fun to shoot but for handsdown accuracy opt for an AR

I like sig sauers assault rifle. If i couldn’t have that an SKS would do me good

Concur with DJ.
Having played with real M16s, AKs, M14s, and M60s ’till I had my fill and having been schooled by an old PJ on the merits of aimed fire over sprayin’ and prayin’, I have no use for full auto capability. Given that, if I had to take posession of a true assault rifle it would be a StG44 just for the historic significance.

* SKS without a doubt. It’s essentially no recoil, accurate, impervious to misuse, legal to own (most everywhere – sorry CA), and the big one – cheap to shoot.

Stick with what I trained on L1A1 308, would rather have it then a M16
