I was thinking a military training rifle from WW2.I like old fashioned stuff.Any other suggestions?
I want a .22 rifle,and i’m not a huge fan of ruger.
is the five-seven really a good defense gun?I admit I was very impressed with it in writing,but I thought it was only good for vest penetration.Also I don’t think many criminals carry a 1000 handgun with 2$ bullets.

For a first rifle, you need to get a single-shot or a manual repeater, not a semi-automatic. Marlin and Remington both make good rifles of these types.

I just got my first gun today. it’s a Walther P22. I like it and it’s cheap to shoot. Probably to high tech looking for you though. For my second purchase I will be getting a Stainless Steel 1911. It is actually a design from back in 1911 and was carried by the military etc. Gotta save some cash for that one. Big Gun = Big Money.

I think that the M1 Garand and the M1 Carbine are neat rifles. Though, there is no such thing as a cheap one of these rifles these days, so expect to pay a pretty penny.

the .22LR is the cheapest, easiest to find, and universally used caliber today. it is low recoil, not loud, and fun to shoot.
i started on one, and everyone i know started on one.
my grandfather has a Winchester bolt action .22 with a 21 inch barrel for only $229.
you can also use it for hunting rabbit and squirrel, too.

If you like military trainers, get yourself a Mossberg 44, US trainer. Or get a Mossberg 46b, another trainer, you can check on gunbroker.com, enter 22 trainer as your search, there’s a few yugo trainers there too, I’ve shot a few of those , super accurate rifles. Lienhard has a single shot 22 trainer that’s the exact same function as a K31! I love military trainers, you get the look and feel of a full size military rifle, and get to shoot it for a week for 16 bucks worth of ammo.

It all depends on what you want to do with the gun. If you’re thinking of plinking I would suggest any .22 gun will do great. If you think varmint hunting a .17 caliber would be a good choice. But if you are thinking of big game hunting like white tailed deer you will have to look for a .243 or .260 caliber gun. Especially the last one, the .260, is an excelent deer gun, light recoil and very good balistics. But if you want to go "old fashioned" maybe a frontstuffer is what you are looking for. There are very good replica’s of old muzzleloaders and of course the modern inline ones.

There are plenty of bolt guns in 22 LR. The training rifles are big and unwieldy. Something handier will be more fun. I’m glad to hear you appreciate older firearms. My favorite 22 is an autoloader, a model 63 Winchester, that’s been out of production for a half century or so (though there is a Brazilian copy made today).

Well for a handgun I would get a 1911 style colt or some random revolver
For a ww2 stlye gun I would get a Mauser K98 or a mauser m48a both nice reliable guns. Fairly cheap ammos not to pricey.
For a self defense hand gun i would get a
*****F N FIVE SEVEN*****
FN 5.7 the ultimate combat/self defense pistol in my estimation shoots the fast LOW RECOIL 5.7x28mm HIGH PENETRATION rounds that is very accurate at a long distance.. even the hollow points are very penetrable.
With low recoil and high penetration (plus a 20 round mag) you put this gun in hands of a unskilled user they will have the ability for faster follow up shots and engage multiple targets easy and accurately. Police treat suspects with these guns in there hands as if the have a rifle.. And take cover. This is how accurate these hand guns are.
5.7x28mm round shoots about 2000 fps (feet per second)
45 acp shoots about 850 fps….
You also can get a 10 round mag extension.. 30 rounds in a semi auto Pistol…is pretty deadly…..

I think is everything a first time gun owner needs… high cap round, easy to maintain plastic for low maintenance…
Ak-47 ton of differnt parts will never jam time tested and proven, may not be as accurate as many other guns but still very good gun to put your life in its hands man things that don’t jam and have high cap rounds are great.

I would recommend something newer, for the first. Depends on what you want to do with it. Many people get a 22LR, I did, my kids did.

I would suggest you get yourself a Henry Repeating Arms Company, lever action .22 rifle. It’s a real very detailed copy of the Henry Repeating Rifle of the Old West Cowboy days. Very accurate, well made but a modern version of an old very popular rifle. You get the best of both worlds……

A 22LR is the best for beginners. Low recoil, not too loud, not hard to clean. Ammo is cheap too. You can shoot 500 rounds for 15 bucks last time I checked. The Ruger 10/22 is a great option. I have one and love it to death, it is fun for plinking and they can be found for around 200 dollars.

Get a .22 rifle.
Whatever gun you choose you won’t shoot it if ammo is too expensive. You can buy a "cool" gun that fires exotic and expensive ammo, which then hangs on the wall and looks neat, or you can buy a plain ol .22 and have fun actually shooting.

the old military rifles are very heavy compared to sporting arms. how old are you, and how much do you weigh are very important. it is hard to go wrong with a .308 as they are good for anything from deer to elk & black bear … and the .308 caliber is often used in 1,000 meter shooting events.

Buy yourself a good used Remington, Marlin or Winchester 22 Rifle*… 357 Magnum or 45acp* My choice*…

If you like WWII rifles, then get a Mosin Nagant M44. I first shot it when I was 13 when my dad owned one, it bruised my shoulder like a bitch, I could’ve sworn the steel butt plate was stuck in my shoulder.
Then, get a Mauser K98k, the German rifle.
But, if you’re just a kid, just get a Marlin Model 60 and maybe a Remington 700 for hunting.

ww2 training .22 rifle would be fine for you. that way you don’t spend alot on the rifle or ammo. you can shoot more and save some money to purchase your next gun, a .22 pistol or revolver.
