What type of sniper rifle was probably used to bring down the Somalii pirates?
The Somali pirates holding the American ship captain captive were brought down by Navy Seal snipers. What type of rifle was probably used? I’m hoping for a response from a knowledgeable person. I mean more knowledgeable than "I play Call of Duty."
Thank you, input is appreciated.

I’m just guessing, but my spot in the pool says a match grade or gold cup M14. Maybe it’s auld lang syne, but i heard the navy had been using ‘ol reliable’ as of late. Maybe a mistake with leftover match ammo?
I’m wondering myself,

Probably a Ruger M77 MkII VLE. It’s light, and very easy to handle on the seas, and accurate of up to 1 mile.
Here’s a good link.

Only the Sniper knows. That is a very difficult shot to make on a moving ship, I might add. And this is real life Jr. not a video game. (it was a BARRETT)
It was also a single shot. not 3 seperate shots. Only 1 shot was actually fired. The 3 somalies were lined up in a row front to back, with their head and shoulders sticking out of the rescue capsule as the USS Bainbridge was towing it out to sea. When they realised that they were being towed, like anybody would, they all stuck there heads out to see what was going on. They have done this several times and had developed a pattern of there movements.

omg I already told you. M40 with stopping power and iron lungs. sheesh. 2 more and they would’ve had an airstrike.

LOL – many birds with 1 shot with a Barrett M82A3 or M107 or the new AS50 – very nice.

It was not a single shot
One was by the widow and two when the others raised their heads for air.
Probably M14 with a 7.62 mm round if not Mk 11 with same ammo. They would not use a 50cal that close.
