I’m talking about firearms, I was thinking about it and the browning .50 cal machine gun is all I could come up with.

The browning M2 .50 Cal Machine Gun has been in the US arsenal since the 20′s.
The BAR was phased out completely in the US military by the 70′s
The second longest serving is the 1911 Pistol

Bayonet
oh wait, firearms… the M-16 has been issued since the ’60s in one form or another…though I guess the browning has been going longer.

The M2 browning .50 cal machine gun has been in use longer than any other small arm in U.S. inventory( various forms: 1921-present ). Though the 1911 has been around longer, the pistol is currently only carried by select U.S. Forces and has not been "standard issue" since 1985.
So in conclusion:
1. Browning .50 Cal MG in issued service for 88 years.
2. 1911 in issued service for 74 years (though fielded in combat for 98 years)

bowning .50 is the oldest. It was brought into service at the end of WW1, being scaled up from the .30 cal m1917 machine gun to the .50 m1921. it got redesigned and updated in 1932 and designated the m2., so around 91 years service time.
second to that, i would say, would be the m-16. Entered service as the m-16a1, in vietnam 1963, for a service run of 46 years.
the springfield would be 3rd imo, with a issued date of 33+ years. issued in 1903, it was replaced by the garand in 1936, but still saw use as a sniper rifle up into the vietnam war.
m1 garand would probobly be 4th at 27 years. was issued in 1936, and although it was officially replaced by the m14, it was still issued a lil bit in ww2/ korean war.
Some of these dates / service durations might not be 100%, but their close. the browning definitly takes 1st place though for longest in service.
