What weapons do the military have that police agencies don’t?

November 9th, 2009 by eranio

Aside from tanks, what weapons do military personel have access to that police department don’t?

By the way, nukes don’t count, because your regular soldier doesn’t have access to them, but the department of defense does, just as the chief operating department of law enforcement (department of justice) could gain access to them if needed.

As far as standard weapons go, what does the military have that police agencies (including federal agencies, such as the FBI, ATF, DEA, etc don’t have?

Law enforcement agencies can buy the same weapons as the military, but don’t have any use for some of them. If LAPD wanted to buy a RPG-7 and some grenade launchers they could if they wanted to.

Heavy machine guns like the M-60. Field artillery, hand grenades, grenade launchers, jet fighters, Apache gunships, The Vulcan mini-gun and tons more.

    most types of propelled weaponry
    such as rocket launchers

Police grenades are all of the "smoke/gas" variety
    so fragment/shrapnel grenades

    Landmines

Basically anything that will cause severe damage and harm to innocent bystanders you are not going to find in a normal police arsenal….the liability is too great
