When stationed at a base can you bring your own guns?

February 24th, 2010 by eranio

I am thinking about joining the military (haven’t decide what branch yet) and want to know if you are allowed to bring your own guns if you are living on base.
Also can you use your own guns on military ranges at the base?

All weapons must be registered on Post.

Single service members living in the barracks, must store their weapons at the Post armory.

( a stupid thing to do, since the post MP’s have been known, to take personal weapons stored and use them )

Married service members ling in post housing, may keep their weapons at their house.

It is different at every post.

Some post do open ranges for personal shooting at times, other post do not.

Some post have shooting ranges operated by MWR, that are open everyday.

    If you go Air Force:
If you live on base, then your arms must be registered and turned into the armory. They will be kept there and you will have access to them during normal armory hours. You are not allowed to have weapons in the dorms.

Edit: I put AF, because I don’t know what the regs are for the other branches… somethings are very different and somethings are the same.

Been a long time since I was in but back then, you could have personal weapons however they were required to be kept in the Armory while you were on base. You could check them out when leaving the base.

Hell no! You can not bring any weapons on a military installation.

You don’t have to join the Air Force.

You just have to register your weapons and turn them into an armory when your not using them.

If you live in the barracks you have to keep them with the armor. If you are married and live in on-base housing, you have to have your weapons registered with the MP station, but you are allowed to keep them in your house.

krystal hit the answer on the head.

I never had deal with the armory for my XD. I had friends living off post, and kept it at there house. Be mindful to study the locale gun laws where ever you end up at.

It’s been 45 years since I was in so the rules may have changed, but how it used to be was, They were registered and stored in the armory. One could not keep a personal weapon in quarters, and issued weapons likewise were kept in the armory unless stationed in a combat area.

Private weapons have to be registered and stored in the base armory.. the whole process of getting them registered and into the armory and out again if you want to use them is a huge pain the the A$$.. your better off leaving them home
