when the military puts holographic sights on the m4 rifle, do they leave the front sight on or take it off?

does the front sight post get taken off and replaced with a flip – down sight, or do they just leave it on and not bother? pics on the internet show both scenarios and i wanna know what one is the right way

No, the sight never leaves the gun, it just folds over. Same thing when you use a scope or different sights.

they leave it on incase it stops working in combat hope i helped

No right or wrong, the front sight also contains the gas block, so any rifle you see without one was designed that way. Just leave it on if its there already, it doesnt really get in the way

They leave it on, They also put a fold up BUIS behind the holosight in case of the holosight failing. My setup is like that. I have an EoTech on mine and a BUIS behind it. I didn’t dualzero it.

the military will generally put on a flip down sight because if you leave on the fixed sight it can, in in certain scenarios, obstruct your veiw of the target and in the military that can be the difference between life and death, so the usually opt for the flip up sight.

You can do either. A scope will see right around the front sight base because it is inside of the minimum focal length of the scope. You will not see the sight base in the field of view. It’s a little bit of optical magic.

they dont take it off. Its used as a back up-in case the electric sights stop working and most probably they have a flip up rear sight. As for how do they shoot? isn’t the front post sight interfering? well thats called a co-witness and no it doesn’t really interfere.

ideally you want your iron sights to co-witness your holo sight. That’s how i run my set up.
