When will the United States Military replace the M16 as the standard infantry assault rifle?

And do you think that they will adopt the Tavor Assault Rifle like the Israelis are, if not what do you think they will use?

The M4 is the current service rifle, it’s being phased in as part of the deployment cycle and as current M-16 models wear out. That said, the M-4 is not especially different than the M-16.
The Army has request out to industry to show demonstrations of potential replacement for the M-4/16 but the cost associated with making such a change a reality will require a significant step forward in weapon design/capacity/capability/maintenance. There really isn’t a candidate for that right now.
There is no firm plan to replace it.

It’s being replaced by the M4 now… which is basically a chop shop M16 anyway. Probably nothing Israeli if for no other reason than politics… we don’t want to be carrying Israeli weapons as we serve in muslim countries. I would guess something European, if ever.

The Army Infantry hasn’t used the M-16 in 8 or 9 years bro. The Army has tested quite a few replacements but none have been given Congressional approval as of yet. SFOD and some SF units have gone to the HK416 but none of the conventional forces have as of yet.

I like the M4. There are only so many ways you can improve a rifle system. You either have to make it lighter, more accurate, longer range, less recoil, higher rate of fire, more durable, or add options like smart muntitions or fire power weapons. The question comes down to the basic role of a modern military rifleman.

The U.S. Army has already largely replaced the M16A2 with the M4.
And no, the U.S. is unlikely to ever adopt the Tavor.

The M4 that’s what I have and I love it but I have also tried out L85(british rifle) and that’s also a sick weapon
