Which military surplus rifle is the easiest/best to mount a scope on?

Which military surplus rifle can you mount a scope on the easiest (without drilling the receiver, or doing any permanent modification to it) Also hopefully it would be inexpensive…nothing like 0
+ for a specialized mount or anything…
Thanks!
I do have a scope on my AR-15..you’re absolutely right about military rifles not supporting scopes…still I would like to try it anyway!!

For many years, military rifles were equipped with iron-sights and scopes were expensive, fragile and impractical for combat conditions.

So, today, it’s not practical to mount a scope on mil-surp rifles without drilling & tapping the receiver. There are a few "no gunsmithing" scope mounts from companies like B-Square. Your mileage may vary. Caveat emptor.

If you want to mount a scope onto a rifle, I suggest getting an AR-15 type rifle. The carrying-handle mounts work well and many AR-15′s are available with a "flat-top" receiver equipped with a weaver rail that can accept scope mounts easily.

Look for 8 mm Mauser KOs they often are pre-tapped for scope mounts. Say one in 50 that I have found. Mostly Argentinean or Austrian!

lots of people put scopes on Mosin Nagants. I have an M91/30 and even with iron sights I find it to be an accurate rifle. You can get cheap scope mounts for $60 and they just mount on the rear sight base I don’t think you have to mod the rifle at all the make it work.

B-Square has no-gunsmithing mounts for most of them.

You can do a lot with your AR15. I assume you have a fixed carry handle. You can change out your upper with a flat top upper. The upper recievers are about $100 or so. You can mount a scope, iron sights, or whatever on the rail. You can keep your carry handle and get something like this

and put a red dot scope on it.

But yes, scopes have traditionally had a very limited role in actual military roles.
