Why do we continue to shrink the number of people in the military while increasing the spending overall?

We keep spending more on high tech weapons when it is clear that in guerrilla warfare, the only type of war any country would wage against the U.S,. demands boots on the ground. The most effective weapons of the Iraq and Iran wars are rifles, rocket propelled grenades, and IEDs not submarines, tactical fighter aircraft, aircraft carriers, and predator drones.

I fear that the military and our wars are just being used as a conduit to funnel government money to the richest people in the world while attempting to minimize the amount given to real American Heroes.

Still, every time I go through the check out stands at PX the headlines on the Army, Navy times are always that more sailors and soldiers are getting the axe.

So many do not believe me when I call Dick Cheney a war profiteer.
I truly believe that profiteering was the only reason we are in Iraq
and I am the widow of a veteran

We are developing cyborgs. There are your boots on the ground.

there are a few other variables at work, such as technology. Compare the cost and complexity of a WWII bomber to any Air Force bomber today.

Drones are the wave of the future. Imagine the Navy pilots that would still be alive today if we used drones in Vietnam. The truth is the movie "Terminator" was right we are headed down the road of robot wars and less humans involved.Without talking too far in the future its just like the private sector. The more machines take over the work the less manpower is needed.
