Why does the Military not trust their own soldiers owning or possessing private weapons on base?
They must know something we don’t know.
Oddly, US bases still have very low per capita violent crime rates. DOes the prohibition on weapons contribute to this?
A "civilain" officer? Hahaha you mean a paramilitary police officer. HArdly a civilian….

the military has extremely tight control on weapons
and ammunition
usual procedure is to have civilian weapons kept at the MP armory
the constitution does not protect members of the military very well
neither does the military tolerate the BS that civilians are noted for

Haven’t you been paying attention to the news?

because there are muslims and gays in the military

Security. Look it up if you don’t know what it means.

Because our country is full of nut cases.

No, it does not. I grew up on military bases and the reason there is low crime rates is because every one there is united by a singular cause. Every one is employed. Those bases are like one huge family.

military laws are different, and its discipline that keeps crime low on base. just like if you were on a militay base right now you would keep you lips shut.

The military has always been strict with its own and private weapons. It is just good policy.
Frankly they aren’t strict enough and this is how this tragedy was able to occur.

no, its the damn discipline that keeps crime rates low… Secondly, military weapons are different than self defense fire arms buddy.

Where did you hear weapons are prohibited? Its not true. All military servicemen have to do is register their weapons. I`m guessing you`ve never been on a military base. Everyone is carrying a handgun.
civilians can even carry weapons on base as well. Ft Hood has a hunting area where civilians can get hunting permits to hunt. Servicemen and women just have to register their weapons and they can openly carry it. There are no restrictions for them ON base

It’s just like schools. Disarm everyone and they become sitting ducks for nuts like this guy. A civilian officer is the one who took the guy down.
February 17th, 2010 at 1:57 am
That’s a big problem for them now,if just <1> out of <10> of those at the base had a M-9 pistol on them ,this muslim scum would have been put out of his misery way before 13 dead and 30 shot .

nope. has nothing to do with violent crime index. on KAFB in albuquerque, and at Ft. huachuca, az you can carry on base. but you have to register the weapon with on post sf or mps. there are tons of bases like this. some bases abut urban areas or suburban areas where the gun laws may prompt the base to enact similar laws just so there is no confusion.
again, i was allowed to carry on KAFB and at Huachuca.
certainly places like L-Wood, Benning, Jackson and Hood are exceptions to the rule. they are small cities unto themselves and are training facilities. a lot of military dependents don’t like seeing that everywhere. they already deal with mommy or daddy or husband or wife dealing with guns all day, they don’t want it at home.
February 17th, 2010 at 1:57 am
…it is obvious you have never served…we can have weapons…if you live in On Post Housing you just have to let the MPs know you have a gun…if you live in the Barracks you have to keep it in the Arms Room…if you live Off Post…you don’t have to tell anyone…you can bring weapons on post they just have to be secured…wow you Liberals will do anything to circumvent the 2nd Amendment won’t you…owning a weapon in the Military is encouraged…try again NeoLibs…using your logic then people on welfare should not be able to vote…but there goes you voting base huh?

Military bases are full of weapons of all sorts. Rifles and hand guns are locked away in arms rooms. However, there is always small arms training going on at most forts.
The military police carry side arms.
People in the military are volunteers who take to the training they receive. Because they are dedicated people pursuing careers, they usually don’t go crazy.

Your premise is faulty.
We operate under rules written by civilians – mostly Democrats. We are locked and loaded pretty-much EVERYWHERE Congress allows, which isn’t very many places, actually. The military DOES trust us with weapons and generally REQUIRES we carry them except where Congress forbids it.
US bases have very low per capita violent crime rates because we screen against felons. EVERY population has some "bad-guys" but on average, we’re simply better people than civilians are.
