Would America be better off without guns?
I think the Vast majority of Americans are nothing but cowards, so quick to pull a weapon instead of learning an actual style of fighting, that’s why we have so many senseless, stupid deaths on a regular basis. Does anyone feel that if America where to Abolish guns or even tighten the laws would this be a better safer place, and only leave guns for law enforcement and military.

I agree somewhat. I feel the same, then I look at how thriving the black market would be. Obama wants to drastically raise the tax on ammunition and guns, which is a good start.

Without guns, the US would have Queen Elizabeth II on our postage stamps. All the despots and dictators of history agree with you, though: freedom is indeed a dangerous thing:
“This year will go down in history: for the first time a civilized nation has full firearms registration. Our streets will be safer, our police more efficient, and the world will follow our lead into the future.”

As long as we have an open border i don’t think we’ll be safer without them. Guns are our last defense in the case of invasion or if the government becomes tyrannical. Guns make the people the 4th branch of government.

A right to bear arms is guaranteed to ALL citizens under the constitution. While this right may seem rather unnecessary, citizens maintaining fire-arms is one of the best ways to prevent a government from holding too much control over its citizens. And criminals will always have guns, so it won’t fix that either.

YOU DONT KNOW WHAT YOUR TALKING ABOUT !!! Guns keep peace from evil dictators, people can rise up and take the power back. Or would you want to surrender to someone like Hitler or Hugo or Saddam. It would not be safer. You are the coward.

When guns are banned – only outlaws will have guns.
The innocent will be completely unprotected.
In my State – there are not many cowards – they know how to fight without a gun.
However – I’ve always heard that it is hard to out-run a bullet … so when the outlaws have their guns and pulling them/shooting them at other people .. the innocent won’t have a gun to protect themselves.

No!! The criminals would still have them. States that allow their law abiding citizens to carry guns have lower crime rates. If all law abiding citizens were armed we would have very little crime. The criminals would be afraid rather than the other way around.

Yes, without guns it would be much easier for the authorities to control the unwashed masses of ignorant peasants.
Perhaps you can wave your magic wand and make all of the evil guns disappear.
Until you can rid the criminals of their guns I will keep mine.

No. The founding fathers inserted the Second Amendment to ensure that government would never get out of control. Abolishing guns means that the people would have no defense against a tyranical government.
Taking guns from law abiding citizens is exactly what those who wish to control the public want.

Well, I agree with not shooting someone over a petty reason, or basically being a coward. However, maybe it would still be a bad idea to do that if there’s still always the chance that others(other than law enforcement or military) will find ways of having guns as well.

The UK banned guns, and now their going through so many senseless, stupid stabbings on a regular basis. As far as being cowardly, no one has any obligation towards the welfare of someone who’s threatening them with deadly weapon, be it a gun, knife, baseball bat, and so on. As far as guns go, it’s foolish and naive to believe that the abolishing guns in the US would keep criminals from getting them. Of course, if things would be as safe as you say they would be, why not just limit them to the military, why would local law enforcement need them?

Johnnie let me ask you a question. If guns are so prolific and so dangerous has anyone ever threatened you with one? If you really want to stop needless death and injury wouldn’t we be better off to eliminate cars and all travel via mass transit. Far more people die in car accidents every year than by shootings.
I guess I just don’t understand gun control advocates wanting to do away with guns when as a percentage so few deaths actually can be attributed to them annually. And of the deaths that due occur more that half are from people using them to defend themselves from criminals.
So I guess the bottom line is I’ll keep mine thank you and you can do whatever you want about owning one or not.

Yes, but its too late. There are too many out there already and the people who have them are defensive about keeping them as you can see in the replies, it is about POWER. Guns are a tool for making hunting easier, whatever the prey.. and when you make it hard again you take their power away and this is threatening. As for restricting them for police and military/banning from the public, "supposedly" people in these positions are trained to know when to make the call to use them or not. They have knowledge of law as to what is acceptable and what is a threat/how to act. Of course no power is without corruption but we are talking idyllic here. Let me put it in american: the GOOD guys have guns(police) but also the BAD guys have em(outlaws), that should balance things. But once you have legions of armed citizens making their own judgment calls based on their own prerogatives and experiences you have accidents and killings waiting to happen. It is a gamble. If the "outlaws" are too much to handle and running amok why don’t YOU do something and join the local police force, get training and protect your community.

Unfortunately I feel your government has already gone tyrannical = WTC/Mass Media Brainwashing/Religion and Law/Cooperate Greed/Materialism/War on _____ <— fill the blank/Illegal Invasions/Health care for the rich, killing is the Business and Business is good. The founding fathers wanted a land that was free and bountiful for all, not just the select, and at the time, firearms were the best way to ensure this, now we have other more civil means. The founding father are spinning in their graves. Its called the "american dream" because you have to be asleep to believe it.
PPS – To the gentleman referring to the stabbings in Britain, you cant exactly injure bystanders with a blade unless you are using ninja stars or something, bullets don’t care where they fly.
